Grade 4 students of Sri Prakash Synergy School embarked on an enriching educational field trip that transformed everyday shopping experiences into meaningful learning opportunities. The visit enabled young learners to explore materials, patterns, measurements, design, craftsmanship and real-life transactions through firsthand observation.
The first stop was a Tiles shop, where the students explored a fascinating variety of tiles, including ceramic, vitrified, glossy and matte finishes. They observed the intricate patterns, symmetry and colour combinations and discovered how different tiles are thoughtfully selected for spaces such as kitchens, bathrooms and halls.
At the furniture shop, students examined different materials such as teak wood, plywood and steel. They learnt how furniture is carefully measured, designed and crafted to ensure comfort, durability and strength.
This experience helped them appreciate the importance of accurate measurement and thoughtful design in everyday objects.
The most exciting part of the trip was the visit to South India Shopping Mall, where the students explored the vibrant world of clothing and textiles. They observed fabrics such as cotton, silk and linen, along with a delightful range of patterns including checks, stripes, polka dots, floral designs and traditional Kalamkari motifs.
A special demonstration of block printing further captivated the children as they watched how artisans create beautiful designs on plain fabric using hand-carved wooden blocks —a wonderful blend of skill, creativity and craftsmanship.
The students then visited the billing counter, where they gained practical insight into how a bill is generated. They learnt about MRP, discounts, GST and observed different payment methods such as cash, card and UPI. This experience connected classroom concepts with real-world financial transactions in an engaging and age-appropriate manner.
The field trip provided a rich interdisciplinary learning experience, seamlessly connecting EVS, Mathematics and Art. More importantly, it encouraged students to observe closely, ask questions, appreciate craftsmanship and apply classroom concepts to everyday life.
