Learning came alive for the young explorers of Grades 1 and 2 as they embarked on an exciting educational field trip to discover the important places and people in their neighbourhood. The visit offered them an opportunity to observe real-life activities, interact with community helpers, and connect classroom learning with the world around them.
The children visited several significant neighbourhood places, including the Hospital, Fire Station, Police Station, Market, Temple, Srirama Theatre, D-Mart, Petrol Bunk and Railway Station.
At the Market, the children observed vegetable vendors weighing produce and learnt how weight, quantity and cost are measured before making a purchase. The experience helped them connect their classroom learning with everyday transactions.
At D-Mart, they explored the wide range of groceries and household essentials available in a modern store and learnt how different products are arranged, displayed and purchased.
At Srirama Theatre, the children got a glimpse of how a theatre functions beyond the screening of films. They learnt about the ticket counter and canteen, including how refreshments are managed and served to visitors. They interacted with Mr. Jagadeesh, Theatre Canteen Manager, and learnt about his responsibilities.
The visit to the Hospital helped the children understand the importance of healthcare services.
They learnt about the different services provided at a hospital and the important role doctors play in caring for patients. They interacted with Dr. Satyanarayana – General Surgeon and Dr. Sukanya – General Surgeon, who introduced them to their professional responsibilities and the role of doctors in keeping the community healthy.
At the Petrol Bunk, the children learnt where petrol comes from, how it reaches fuel stations, and how it is used in vehicles and everyday life. This helped them understand the journey of a commonly used resource from its source to the consumer.
Their visit to the Railway Station introduced them to the functioning of the railway system. They interacted with Mr. B. Santhosh – Railway Operating System Staff and learnt about his responsibilities in supporting the smooth operation of railway services.
The visits to the Fire Station and Police Station helped the young learners appreciate the vital roles of firefighters and police personnel in protecting people, responding to emergencies, and maintaining safety and order. These interactions encouraged the children to value the services provided by community helpers.
At the Temple, they observed the place as an important part of the neighbourhood and learnt about its significance in the community.
The field trip transformed familiar neighbourhood places into living classrooms, encouraging the children to observe, question, interact and learn from real-world experiences.
It helped them appreciate how different community helpers work together to make everyday life safer, healthier and more convenient.
